Disclaimer: Bitvavo and the new EU MiCA regulation

The European Union’s Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCAR) (Regulation (EU) 2023/1114) is a landmark framework designed to bring clarity and regulatory consistency to the European crypto market. MiCAR establishes a single licensing regime for crypto-asset service providers (CASPs) across all EU member states, creating a more stable, transparent, and investor-friendly ecosystem.

At Bitvavo, we fully support MiCAR as a necessary step toward fostering trust and innovation in digital finance. We believe MiCAR will enhance consumer protection, improve market integrity, and strengthen the legitimacy of the crypto industry in Europe.

Bitvavo’s MiCAR authorization process

Bitvavo is authorized as a crypto-asset service provider (CASP) under Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (EU) 2023/114 (MiCAR) by the Dutch Financial Markets Authority (Autoriteit Financiële Markten — AFM), the supervisor for financial markets in the Netherlands, where Bitvavo is headquartered.

With our MiCA authorization, we continue providing our services in Italy and other EU markets under the passporting regime, as outlined in Article 65 of MiCAR. This allows regulated firms to operate seamlessly across the EU under a single license, ensuring a unified and compliant crypto experience for all of our users.

What this means for Bitvavo customers

  • No changes are required to your Bitvavo account or services.

  • As a MiCA-licensed provider, Bitvavo continues to operate in full compliance with EU regulatory standards.

  • We remain committed to stability, compliance, and a best-in-class trading experience for our users across the EU.

We welcome MiCA’s framework and believe it marks an important milestone for the future of digital finance in Europe. As a MiCA-licensed CASP, our goal is to continue offering a trusted crypto-asset trading platform and related services to Bitvavo users across Europe.
