What is a Web3 wallet?
A Web3 wallet lets you interact directly with blockchain networks.
Unlike your regular Bitvavo account, the Web3 wallet is self-custodial. This means you control the wallet and its private key yourself. Transactions take place directly on the blockchain rather than through Bitvavoās exchange.
The Web3 wallet is available inside the Bitvavo app, so you donāt need to install a separate wallet app to get started.

How to set up your Web3 wallet
Getting started takes just a few steps:
Open your profile in the Bitvavo app and selectĀ Web3 wallet.
Confirm your Bitvavo credentials, including your password and 2FA.
Add crypto from your Bitvavo account or another wallet.
You can then start exploring and swapping supported assets.
To transfer crypto from your Bitvavo account to your Web3 wallet, openĀ Receive in your Web3 wallet and selectĀ Receive from Bitvavo.
Bitvavo account vs. Web3 wallet
Your Bitvavo account and Web3 wallet both live within the Bitvavo app, but they work differently.
With your Bitvavo account, you buy and sell assets through Bitvavoās regulated exchange. Bitvavo holds your assets within its custody structure and manages the private keys associated with them.
YourĀ Web3 walletĀ is self-custodial. You control the private key and decide which assets and blockchain networks you interact with. Transactions are carried out on-chain rather than through Bitvavoās exchange.
This also means you have more responsibility when using the Web3 wallet. On-chain transactions generally cannot be reversed, and Bitvavo cannot undo a transaction if you send assets to the wrong address or use an unsupported network.
The Web3 wallet is provided by Vavo Web3 Limited, a separate entity from Bitvavo B.V., and is not a regulated service under MiCA.
How to stay safe when using Web3
Web3 gives you direct access to blockchain networks and a much wider range of assets. That also comes with additional risks.
Check the asset before you swap.
Assets available through the Web3 wallet are not verified or reviewed by Bitvavo. Tokens can carry significant risks, including the risk of losing your full investment.
Double-check addresses and networks.
Blockchain transactions generally cannot be reversed. Sending assets to the wrong address or via the wrong network may result in permanent loss.
Review every transaction before confirming.
Always check the asset, amount, network and fees before completing a transaction.
Keep your private key private.
You can export the private key of your Web3 wallet, giving you direct access to your wallet if needed. Never share your private key with anyone. Anyone who has access to it can access and transfer your assets.
