Whether you want the freedom to trade anytime or prefer to lock in higher returns, Bitvavo makes it easy to earn crypto on your crypto. To get started, youāll first need to enable Flex Staking for all eligible assets. You can then opt-in to Fixed Staking on a per-asset basis where available, giving you the flexibility to customize your earning strategy.
Flex Staking
Passive earnings with full flexibility. With Flex Staking, your assets remain available to trade or withdraw at any time: no lock-up, no waiting period. Itās ideal if you want to stay active in the market while earning passive returns on your current cryptocurrency holdings. Earnings are calculated daily and paid out weekly.
Fixed Staking
Lock up assets for higher returns. Fixed Staking lets you earn even more by locking eligible assets for a predefined period. In return for that commitment, you can earn a higher APY on assets staked through Fixed. Earnings are paid out at the end of the term, and assets unlock automatically, defaulting back to Flex.

Lending services are provided by Bitvavo Custody B.V., which is not licensed under MiCA. Any conflicts of interest are managed in line with MiCA requirements. FAQ
Flex Staking is currently available on 50+ assets. Fixed Staking is available for a select list of staking assets. For the assets for which Fixed is available, both the APY and the lock up periods are continuously subject to change. We aim to expand the offering of assets for which Fixed Staking is available in the near future.
Rewards are calculated based on two factors:
- The APY rate of each supported asset. These rates may change due to blockchain or market conditions.
- The lowest daily balance of eligible assets held in your Bitvavo wallet. Assets in open orders are included in this balance.
If you sell or withdraw an asset to an external wallet, it will stop earning rewards.
Disabling Staking stops rewards from being earned on any eligible assets you hold. You can re-enable Staking at any time through your Earn hub settings.
Yes, but with a few important details. Flex Staking must be enabled first to access any staking earnings. For eligible assets, you can then opt into Fixed Staking to enhance your APY rate for the lock up period. Once staked in a Fixed contract, your assets will be locked up for the specified period. After the Fixed lock-up period ends, staked assets and earnings will automatically move back into Flex Staking. You can then choose either to restake on Fixed, continue staking on Flex, or opt out of Staking all together.
We work with multiple market makers and institutional parties. All counterparties undergo an elaborate screening process to determine creditworthiness and set appropriate limits aimed at mitigating risk. The creditworthiness and reliability of borrowers is typically assessed through a combination of factors, including credit history, financial statements, KYC/AML, reviewing reputation and references, IT risk assessment, and operational risk assessment.
Proof of stake staking involves the process of participating in the validation and consensus of a blockchain network by holding and locking up cryptocurrency assets. Bitvavo stakes on behalf of its customers. As a customer, you entrust Bitvavo to handle the Staking process, including the selection of appropriate validators or nodes within the supported blockchain networks. Bitvavo employs a rigorous due diligence process to assess the credibility and reliability of validators or nodes it engages with for staking purposes. This due diligence process may involve evaluating factors such as the reputation of the validators or nodes, their performance history, security measures in place, and their compliance with network protocols.
With smart contract staking there are no validators. Instead a risk assessment is performed on the smart contract including checking audits and ensuring certain criteria are met including not using lending protocols.
