Aion (AION) is an open-source decentralized platform that wants to use blockchain technology to ensure that other blockchains can be connected to each other. At present there are hundreds of different blockchains that are not yet connected to each other, making it impossible to exchange information. This is very similar to computers from 1980, which in their early years could not share information with each other. Aion wants to make sure that this is possible with blockchains and believes that connecting blockchains means that much more can be achieved from the possibilities of all blockchains.
The Aion network ensures that blockchains can be connected to each other. This means that these blockchains can:
- Collaborate; it should be possible to move data and values on all blockchains that are integrated in the Aion network.
- Scale-up; Aion's network helps to increase the transaction speed and data capacity of the connected blockchains. This is possible thanks to the technology developed by Aion and the ability to run applications on multiple connected blockchains.
- To create; it is possible to create public or private blockchains yourself which can also be integrated with the other blockchains. This allows the manner of consensus, the developments of this blockchain and the associated token to be determined.
With the above, Aion wants to ensure that blockchains are integrated with each other. If a transactions is being made from one blockchain to another blockchain within the Aion Network, a transaction fee is required. This must be paid with a AION token.

Storing Aion and other digital assets requires a wallet, but don’t worry: Bitvavo’s hosted wallet allows you to store Aion without any technical knowledge. Here is a brief overview of the existing wallet options to store your Aion:
Hosted wallets are wallets where the private keys to your Aion are managed by a third party such as Bitvavo. Access to your account is protected by a password and other advanced security features. Once you are logged in, you can easily and conveniently manage your Aion online. Bitvavo offers standard hosted wallets for all digital assets that are offered on the platform.
A software wallet is a program installed on your computer or other device in order to use and manage your Aion. Using a software wallet gives you full control over your private keys, so you are not dependent on third parties. The risk is that you alone are in charge of the security of your Aion, and if malicious parties have access to your device, your private keys (and therefore your Aion) can be stolen.
A hardware wallet is a physical device on which you can store your Aion offline. It is one of the safest ways to store your Aion, because the private keys are stored on a separate and offline device. Access to this device is often protected by a password. In many ways, a hardware wallet can be compared to a safe in which your Aion is stored.
You can use Bitvavo's hosted wallet to easily store, send and receive Aion. Once you have purchased Aion on Bitvavo, you can choose to send your Aion from your Bitvavo wallet to your own software or hardware wallet.
